Co-amoxiclav is an antibiotic that eliminates bacteria responsible for infections. It contains two active ingredients: amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxicillin belongs to the "penicillins" group, which can sometimes be rendered inactive by certain bacteria. Clavulanic acid prevents this inactivation, ensuring the effectiveness of amoxicillin.
Co-amoxiclav is used to treat a variety of infections, including:
- Middle ear and sinus infections
- Respiratory tract infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections, including dental infections
- Bone and joint infections
What to Do in Specific Situations
If you take more co-amoxiclav than you should: Taking too much co-amoxiclav may cause symptoms like an upset stomach (nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea) or convulsions. Contact your doctor immediately and bring the medicine carton or bottle with you.
If you forget to take a dose: Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Ensure there is an interval of about four hours before the next dose.
If you stop taking Co-amoxiclav: Continue taking co-amoxiclav until the prescribed course is finished, even if you start feeling better. Completing the full course is crucial to completely eradicate the infection and prevent its recurrence.
